Volunteer Descriptions

Team Parent-Checks to make sure swimmers are circled in before the scratch meeting. Informs coaches if a swimmer is missing or leaves. Reminds swimmers when events are called to go to ready bench. Assists relay teams getting to ready bench.

Ready Bench-Responsible for putting swimmers in the correct order according the heat/lane assignments. Moves the swimmers to the pool deck in order. Assists with consolidating heats where possible.

Runners-  Collect completed heat sheets from scribes after every 4 events and take to the computer room. Deliver lane timer sheets as needed from the computer room. Deliver meet programs to officials, ready bench, and coaches.

Head Timer- Times every race so in the event that a lane timer has a stop watch malfunction, the lane can still get a stopwatch from the head timer.  

Lane Timers-Take the times of assigned lane using a stop watch. Be prepared to pay close attention to referee and starter. Clearly gives time to scribe to record on lane timer sheet.

Scribes-Confirm swimmer’s name vs. lane timer sheet. Write the 3 times given by the lane timers. Allow Stroke/Turn officials to write on lane timer sheet when they are disqualifying a swimmer.

Computer Room- Prepare lane timer sheets for computer entry personnel. Organize incoming sheets by event number, circle the median time/swimmer for each event and verify computer results against lane timer sheets. Assist runners when necessary.

Ribbons-Attach printed labels to ribbons for team and place into team file.

Parking Attendants- Direct parents to appropriate parking areas for home meets. Must arrive at 6:20 a.m.

Deck Assistant- Distribute water to timers/scribes and volunteers. Assist on deck as needed. Check restrooms periodically for supplies and restock. Check trash levels and replace bags as needed during meet.

Computer Entry Trained- Must be trained to enter meet times and keeps the meet running smoothly.

Special Activities Committee- Assist with the organization of activities for the team.

Announcer-Plays music and calls swimmers to the ready bench. THIS PERSON IS THE KEY TO KEEPING A MEET RUNNING SMOOTHLY.

Certified Officials: Additional training is required through NWAL. Please see team NWAL Representative if interested.

Referee-Enforces the rules necessary to conduct a swim meet.

Starter-Starts each race.

Stroke & Turn- Ensures stroke and turns of swimmers are legal and correct, reports disqualifications to Referee.

Clerk of Course-Swimmers report to the clerk of course before the meet begins, Clerk maintains official entry list.
